Hand-Painted Sugar Skulls Workshop
Honor Tradition, Embrace Color, and Create a Beautiful Work of Art
Step into a vibrant celebration of life and culture in this hands-on painting workshop, where students will transform 3D model skulls into beautiful Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead)–inspired sugar skulls. Kristina will guide this class, and students will learn the history and symbolism behind these colorful creations while designing their own unique masterpiece—no prior experience necessary!
A Brief History:
Sugar skulls, or calaveras, are a traditional folk art from Mexico used to celebrate Día de los Muertos, a holiday that honors and remembers loved ones who have passed. These decorative skulls are often placed on altars (ofrendas) and represent the joyful return of spirits to the world of the living. Far from spooky, sugar skulls are symbols of love, remembrance, and the beauty of life itself—typically adorned with vibrant colors, flowers, hearts, and glittering designs.
